The Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences (now Philadelphia University) was successfully re-cabled in 1997. Design work for this project commenced in January of 1997 and construction was underway by April of the same year. Atlantic Coast Communications NJ, Inc. constructed a complete campus - frame to station solution - at this 90-acre site in the city of Philadelphia. This project included the installation of 6 miles of underground conduit, and 10 new manholes. The installed conduit was filled with fiber optic (1,000+ strands of single and multi-mode), copper feed (6,000 pair), and coaxial cable distribution plant for 56 buildings to satisfy data, voice, and video (CATV) backbone requirements throughout the campus. In addition, approximately 6000 station cables were installed to 2700 locations throughout the campus, including all dormitories and administrative areas. The majority of these station cables were within an EMT or metal wiremold raceway installed as part of this project. Atlantic Coast engineered and designed the cable plant solution and partnered on this project with WilTel (PBX provider) and Cabletron (data switching network). The completed cable project was cutover on time at the end of December 1997 - adding enhanced video, telephone, and data capabilities to the entire campus population at the college. Cutover was completed flawlessly as complete testing and cable records were provided to the partnering vendors and assistance made available to WilTel and Cabletron by our professionals in the field.
